Dewey Exhibits - (work in progress)
I started with a collection of old boxes, each about the size of an average book. These had numbers stenciled on them. I took these numbers to several libraries and matched them up with non-fiction books of the same number using the Dewey Decimal system of cataloguing. I found a collection of old Agatha Christie books in a charity shop and tried to match their titles to the ones I had selected from the library.
Next I randomly selected words from each Agatha Christie book, firstly chosing what I called ‘artefact words’ and then going back over the story to fill in the gaps - I wove these words into a new story which I represented in the box ...
Box 785: 'The Well-Tempered Keyboard Teacher' - paired that up with Agatha Christie's: 'The Man in the Brown Suit'
Box 910: 'Unforgettable Journeys to Take Before You Die' - then paired up with Agatha Christie's: 'Journey on the Orient Express'.
Box 155: 'Unhappy Children - Reasons and Remedies' - paired that up with Agatha Christie's: 'The ABC Murders'
